GM Unveils New OnStar Fleet Intelligence Platform

General Motors announced on Sept. 30 the rollout of OnStar Fleet Intelligence, a new platform aimed at fleet customers. The service merges vehicle data with GM’s connected-service ecosystem into a single, unified system.

The platform consolidates information on asset productivity, efficiency, risk management and total operating cost, presenting it in a unified view. Fleet managers can see fuel usage, range, diagnostic alerts and location data without switching between separate tools or manual logs.

“Our fleet customers need simple, intuitive tools to manage their vehicles and efficiently manage operating costs,” said Ian Hucker, global VP, GM Fleet, in a statement. “The OnStar Fleet Intelligence platform meets this need head-on, streamlining complex data into one accessible dashboard so business owners can focus less on administrative hurdles and more on efficiently scaling their operations.”

The system offers a single access point where fleet owners can set geofences, track orders and monitor each vehicle’s diagnostic and telematics data remotely. Information such as fuel efficiency, remaining range and maintenance alerts is displayed in real time.

For larger operators, this solution allows fleet account numbers to be linked, giving a single login that covers every vehicle tied to that account, even if the assets span different makes or models. This simplifies oversight across diverse fleets.

A new feature called the Fleet AI Assistant uses generative AI to turn raw data into actionable insights. It can examine fuel expenses across vehicles, routes and drivers, highlighting changes that would most reduce costs, according to the release.

The assistant answers queries in natural language, allowing a manager to ask for total idling time per vehicle for the current month or to list the most utilized trucks. These new AI-powered insights provide opportunities to increase efficiency, per GM.

“This new platform builds on that legacy of innovation to transform fleet management, turn data into insights, and help our customers grow and scale their businesses.”

GM said OnStar Fleet Intelligence will continue to evolve, adding new features over time to help fleet managers grow and scale their business.
