The Suzuki Jimny has never offered a soft-top version in its current generation, but Japanese tuner Damd created a way to mimic the look without cutting into the roof.
A $330 trim piece splits the side glass for a retro effect
The new Slash Garnish accessory is a diagonal trim strip that mounts directly onto the Jimny’s rear side windows. It divides each pane into two smaller sections, resembling the split-window canopy of earlier Jimny models. The design provides a nostalgic silhouette without structural changes.
Damd, recognized for bold styling kits that often reference off-roaders, chose a subtler approach this time. The trim doesn’t turn the Jimny into a replica of another vehicle. It simply references the SUV’s own past.

Rear passengers may lose a small amount of visibility, but the result is a more distinctive profile. The trim comes unpainted or in three colors: Medium Gray, Jungle Green, and Chiffon Ivory Metallic. For added vintage appeal, Damd provides an optional wood panel that matches its existing wood-infused roof basket, unifying the theme across the vehicle.
To enhance the illusion, Damd wrapped the roof and rear pillars of the prototype in a contrasting color, making the rear section resemble a removable hard top. The effect is convincing, leaving some to wish for a Jimny Convertible.
The Slash Garnish fits both the kei-class Jimny and the global-spec Jimny Sierra, but it won’t work with the five-door Jimny Nomade due to its different greenhouse shape. Pricing in Japan starts at 52,800 yen ($330), with an additional 33,000 yen ($200) for painting and 6,600 yen ($40) for shipping. The wood trim costs another 24,530 yen ($150), bringing the total to 116,930 yen ($720) before installation.

Owners can combine the trim with Damd’s other styling kits. The prototype shown pairs it with a full-body treatment, though the Slash Garnish works alone as a simple, reversible nod to the past.
The change is minor but alters the Jimny’s character without changing its core. The SUV has always served as a blank canvas for modifiers, and this accessory plays to that strength.
